Welcome

Harpenden Expedition Club (HEC) was founded in 1993 to provide Adventure through outdoor challenge by taking young people aged 12 to 19 from Harpenden to the wild country in Wales, the Lake District, Derbyshire, River Wye and everywhere in-between. We have also been to Scotland and Corsica for longer periods.

Our activities include fell walking and mountaineering, rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking and occasionally Sailing.

On the 4th Tuesday of each month we host a meeting at the Harpenden Trust Hall in Southdown where we teach members new skills, plan our trips and learn to work as a team.

HEC was founded by a number of experienced and qualified outdoor enthusiasts who offer their time on an entirely voluntary basis. Some of our leaders today were founder members, aged 13 when the club was first established in 1993!

The club is entirely not-for-profit and supported by the three Harpenden secondary schools, The Harpenden Trust and affiliated with the British Mountaineering Council.

Members not only learn outdoor skills but life skills too and the mention of membership on university application statements is usually a big help!

The best way to find out more about the club is to come along to one of our monthly meetings where students can meet existing members and parents can meet the leaders. We also hold an annual open evening for new members. To keep up to date with recruitment events please connect with our Facebook page.

If you would like to to join the club, please complete our application form.
